I love my Mommy

A few weeks ago, I felt totally and completely- one might say hopelessly- overwhelmed. School pressures, two callings with pressing concerns, sick kids, and a messy house. None of these things are new stresses, and thankfully Kurt is a HUGE help in all of the above categories. I like having such a full life, and most of these stresses are manageable. However, the disorganized house stress is one that I have never been able to shake. It is constantly in the back of my head. Whenever I sit down on the T, when I'm in the temple, when I lay down at night... even if the house is relatively clean, I know what lurks behind the doors and cupboards, and it drives me crazy that there is no organization!!!! It all started (or continued) last May when we moved in. Within a month after moving in, Kurt graduated, we had 3 weeks of house guests, I birthed Max (hee, hee, that sounds funny), and we took off for a six week series of trips. I started school again a couple weeks after we got back so I never really had a chance to fully unpack and organize everything.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I was literally on the brink of insanity. I've never felt like that before. I literally felt that I was going to break in two, pull my hair out, or run down the street naked shouting "the end is coming!". I called my mom and begged her to come with my Dad (he had business here) and help me finally get organized. She came and went from room to room, top to bottom and helped me sort, label, and de-clutter. In addition, she bought bunches of organization helps (plastic tubs, bins, etc..), perpetually did laundry, made food for us, and played with my kids. After she left, we had several meals in the freezer, bunches of leftovers in the fridge, clean clothes, finished projects (that I'd started months before), and no dust bunnies anywhere in the house. I feel like a new woman! It takes me literally 5 minutes in every room now to pick up (well, a little longer in the kitchen) and my house has been clean every day since she left.

I had no idea how much of my stress was from that area of my life until everything was done. I can focus better, I'm more relaxed, and I have more time! :) Kurt asked a couple days ago why this semester seemed so much more relaxed than last semester even though I'm taking more classes. There are many reasons for this, but probably the biggest is MY ORGANIZED HOUSE!!

Thank you, Mom!!! You saved me!!

Oh Jen, aren't mothers wonderful? But when you get to a similar point in life and your parent's aren't coming in to town, don't hesitate to call! I'm good at mercilessly purging old junk, dusting, and ever scrubbing toilets!

How much does your mom charge? Just kidding. I think I already take advantage of my mom's supermom-that-no-daughter-can-ever-replicate skills. It is true that cleanliness invites the Spirit. But it is still amazing that you do so many important things all at once. I'm always in awe. :)

Aren't moms great?!? What would we ever do without them? (Well, I guess without them, we wouldn't even be here...)

Man I know how you feel - if my house is messy, I am a mess! That was so nice of your mom... are you still in school? I thought you already graduated for some reason...

Yeah, we still need to hire that professional organizer... Maybe I'll put Laura to work while she's here. She has the gift.

Ditto to everyone's comments that moms are THE BEST! And your mom is particularly fabulous. I'm so glad that you have less stress since you're one of the most go-get-em, involved, dynamic people I know. I did laugh out loud to imagine your mental breakdown, running down the street naked. I imagine Madi would have probably made some funny comment about it.

So, what does your moms schdule look like in the near future? Does she do "rent-a-mom" trades?

I love mommy's too. I so often wish mine was closer. And when I think back on growing up, I am always in awe of all she did and think - why can't I do that? Glad you are feeling a little more together.
